Are you ready to start vlogging and launch your very own YouTube channel? If you want to get great results with your new channel, you’re going to need to do a little bit more than just come up with content that your audience will be interested in. Check out these six handy tips for creators starting a new YouTube channel:
Set Short-Term and Long-Term YouTube Goals
Setting goals for where you want to be with your YouTube channel in the next few weeks or months will help get you started. What do you want to achieve? When would you like to achieve it by? How will you do so?
Goals will give you more structure and a better idea of how to plan your efforts as you create content and work on marketing your videos. Start establishing goals for your new YouTube channel to create a direction for your progress going forward!
Know Your YouTube Channel’s Audience
Not sure who your audience on YouTube will be? Imagine yourself talking to someone when you make your videos. Who is that person? How old are they? What do they want to learn? What are their interests? Get really specific, and you’ll come up with a good picture of the viewer demographic(s) that you’re aiming at with your YouTube videos.
Then you’ll have an easier time creating vlogs for them and figuring out how to reach them better and get them to watch your awesome content!
How Will Your YouTube Channel Stand Out?
You shouldn’t think of other YouTube vloggers in your niche as competition (in fact, you can really help each other out a lot), but you should think about how you can make your YouTube videos stand out so that viewers select them whenever they look for content relevant to your channel and brand. Figure out how you’ll differentiate your vlogs, and you’ll be on your way to creating a successful YouTube channel.
Build a Social Media Presence for Your Channel
You can’t expect your viewers to find you through YouTube and Google searches alone, and social media is really one of the best ways to get people’s attention online. Create official profiles and pages for your YouTube channel on all of the relevant social media platforms that your audience uses. Then post unique and engaging content regularly, interact with your audience and with other vloggers on social media, and you should notice a jump in engagement with your new YouTube channel’s brand.
Create and Publish an Uploading Schedule
When people see your YouTube videos and enjoy them, they’re going to head to your channel for more. When they’re done watching your previous videos, they’re going to want to know when they can tune in for more. If you create and publish an accurate uploading schedule (meaning you have to stick to it and actually upload your videos on time), then they’ll know when they can expect more content from you, which will increase your return viewership, leading to more views and growth!
Doing this also gives you a great option for a call to action at the end of your videos with something like, “And don’t forget to catch my next video on Wednesday afternoon!”
You can also include your uploading schedule in your video descriptions, your social media bios, branded intros or outros for your videos, and/or on your YouTube home page’s background art.
Engage With Other YouTubers in Your Community
Now, remember when we said not to think of other YouTubers as competition? Here’s why. Engaging with them is a great way to build up a community around your niche and expand your audience and theirs, too. Building relationships with other vloggers can lead to shout-outs, mentions, and collaborations to help everyone involved grow their audience more. You can reach out to other vloggers on social media and/or in their video comments.
