Whether you vlog or create short films, a Facebook fan page is a great way to promote your YouTube channel. A fan page allows you to post announcements and the latest updates concerning your YouTube channel for your fans.
This is a really important step for building a community or brand around your YouTube channel. In this article, we will go over the main steps for setting up a Facebook fan page.
Alright, let’s start with step number one:
Before you set up a Facebook page, you must be logged in to your account. After logging in, move on to the next step.
Select “Create Page”
At the top right corner of your screen (blue navigation menu), you will come across a few icons. Click on the gear icon which is beside the lock. After clicking on the gear icon, select “create page” from the drop down menu.
Choose Your Page Type
After selecting the option to create a page, it’s time to decide who the page will be used for.
For this article, we will select, “Artist, Band or Public Figure”. You are now required to select the category and name that best describes your YouTube channel.
A popular option for many YouTubers is to choose entertainer for the category. After completing the required fields be sure to read over the Facebook page terms. If you agree to the terms, tick the checkbox and click on Get Started.
Add a Page Description
You are now taken to a page that takes you through 4 steps to help setup your Facebook fan page. The first step requires you to add a description with basic information about you or your YouTube channel. The second part allows you to add in your YouTube channel url.
Thirdly, you are asked if this fan page is for a real person. Only the first field is required. After finishing, click save.
Add a Profile Picture
The second step allows you to upload a profile picture. Select the option to upload a picture and click next once your picture has been uploaded. (If you do not have access to a picture for your fan page, you can skip this step.)
Add to Favorites
This step allows you to add the page to your favorites. This helps you access your Facebook page with ease at any time. So go ahead and click on Add To Favorites! After you finish, select next.
Reaching More People
The fourth step is totally optional. This step allows you to create an ad for your fan page. Facebook ads can be a great way to promote your page. Before starting, you should definitely read over a few articles on how it works and how to make your ads more effective. You may also never even have a need for ads. It all depends on your goals. For now, you can select skip.
After going through those 4 steps you are taken to the admin panel for your page. This is the view you get for your Facebook fan page when logged in. Notifications for your fan page are shown at the top of the panel. When you receive messages, they can be seen on the right side of the admin panel. (You can also turn messages off).
The admin panel also shows you insights about your Facebook page, and allows you to invite your friends to like the page.
Editing Your Page
If you want to make edits to your Facebook fan page, select the edit page drop down menu. (You can find it at the top of the admin panel). You can select this option to update your page info or edit page settings.
By updating your Facebook page information you can edit or add more info about your YouTube channel. For example, you can add a bio, short description, contact email, website, and much more. This is also where you can find your Facebook page ID (displayed at the bottom).
Page settings allow you to moderate your fan page or add restrictions if needed. You can also edit the posting ability (others posting on your page) or the visibility of your fan page. There are tons of settings that you can edit from this page.
Add a Cover Image – It’s important to add a cover to your fan page. Upload an image that represents what your YouTube channel is about. It can be a picture of you or even the name of your channel. It’s important to have a unique cover to make your Facebook fan page more effective.
Encourage Sharing – Ask your fans to share your page with their friends and tell them how much it means to you. When people share your page or posts, your potential reach grows. This helps bring a bigger following to your fan page on Facebook.
Be Active – Don’t be inactive for days or weeks. In order to build a following around your YouTube channel you must be active with your fans, especially on your social media pages. You don’t have to wait until your next video is uploaded to make your next post on your Facebook page. Create posts to share pictures, start discussions, make announcements and to engage with your fans. This will help your fan page grow and ultimately lead to a bigger audience for your YouTube channel.
Use the information above to create and setup a Facebook fan page for your YouTube channel starting today! Remember to be creative, active, and consistent for success!
