When it comes to creating a successful YouTube channel, you probably know the basics (be sure to check out our 300+ articles). You know that you should work consistently on your beauty channel, your social media presences, and your vlogs to get more engagement and more views on YouTube. And you know that it takes time to build an audience and really see the success you want.
Because these things take patience and because it can take quite a while to grow your YouTube channel, there a couple of things to avoid, in order to stay on the right path. Trying to speed your results with spammy “solutions” isn’t the way to go, but a lot of new YouTube beauty vloggers still make the same mistakes over and over again. To help you avoid them, here are some mistakes to keep an eye out for as you start beauty vlogging on YouTube:
“Sub for Sub” Programs and Networks
When you see a reference to a “sub for sub” program, you’re looking at a subscription exchange program. Basically, when you sign up with one of these services, you’ll subscribe to a number of other channels and they’ll subscribe to your channel in exchange. The other way this works is to either manually comment on people’s videos or use an automated service that leaves comments like, “Hey, great video! Subscribe to my channel and I’ll subscribe to yours!”
When you see these comments on your beauty channel, what comes to mind? Spam, right? If you don’t want to be seen as a spammer, don’t do it.
If you’re naturally and manually exchanging authentic subscriptions with friends, and creators you’ve built a connection with, that’s totally fine. However, avoid using any “Sub4Sub” services and/or programs, as it’s something that YouTube is against.
Buying Fake Views for Your YouTube Videos
There are also services out there that sell fake views, and sometimes new YouTubers are easily swayed to go ahead and invest in those views, as they start beauty vlogging. Avoid this!
Unless you went viral, people will definitely notice it, especially if your video doesn’t have any likes or comments that would seem to fit the view count. Plus, fake views are just that – fake. Why risk having all of your hard work and effort being penalized by YouTube over fake views? You want real engagement, not a number under your video.
Not Researching Your Beauty Channel’s Audience
If you don’t know who your audience is, how can you create content to appeal to them? How will you know what type of content and topic areas they’re interested in? Take the time to research your audience and get to know them, and you’ll have a much easier time reaching them and creating content that they’ll watch, enjoy, and share.

Being Inconsistent as a Beauty Vlogger
You start out thinking that you’re going to upload YouTube beauty vlogs three times a week, but then you get busy. A week passes with only one video, but you upload three the next. Then a week passes with no videos at all, but you post one the next. Inconsistency makes it difficult for your audience to know when to come back for more, and is something that can really slow down your progress. By sticking to a consistent schedule, you’ll increase your return viewership, which is essential for growing your YouTube channel.
Expecting Automatic Growth on YouTube
One very important thing to remember when you start beauty vlogging on YouTube is that growth takes work and patience. Just making a cool YouTube video won’t mean that people will automatically see it and subscribe to your channel. You need to put the effort in to not only create quality beauty vlogs but also consistently complete important channel tasks like branding your content, establishing a social media presence, marketing your channel, developing relationships in your community, and much more.

Not Looking Ahead At What You Want to Achieve
If you don’t have a plan, how will you stay on track with the vision you have for your channel and measure your results? As a beauty vlogger on YouTube, it will help you in so many ways to have a weekly, monthly, and even quarterly schedule and calendar for your channel and what needs to be done to reach your goals.
Growing a YouTube beauty channel takes time, effort, and patience, but if you have a solid plan with long- and short-term goals and milestones, you’ll know where you are, how far you’ve come, and where you need to be to achieve what you want for your channel.
Avoid these six mistakes as you start beauty vlogging on YouTube and you’ll be on your way to developing a successful channel without resorting to spam or buying fake views.
