Beauty vlogs are really big on YouTube right now, with no signs of slowing down. Make-up lessons, product reviews, and hair styles are just a few types of YouTube videos that make up the world of beauty vlogging.
Recently, we got to speak with Sinead Cady, the beauty vlogger from Ireland who created “TheMakeupChair” – a YouTube channel with over 450,000 subscribers and more than 45 million views on YouTube!
Sinead is a professional make-up artist who started creating beauty vlogs on YouTube in 2010. Since then, Sinead has built an engaging community that enjoys watching her YouTube videos on various topics and trends in the beauty industry. Providing a place to teach make-up classes for free online is the goal of her YouTube channel. She has definitely succeeded in doing so!
Interacting with her followers, creating videos on requested topics, and passion to help others with her expertise are just a few reasons for her success on YouTube. A few days ago, we got to speak with Sinead about her vlogging career on YouTube:
It’s been more than 4 years since you started making vlogs on YouTube. What led you to becoming a beauty vlogger?
The main reason I started vlogging was to get a placement at a beauty college I had tried and failed to get in the year before. I was told I needed to show experience and interest in the makeup and beauty industry so I started to vlog on different makeup and beauty topics so I could show them how much I really wanted to study with them and further my career but somehow suddenly the vlogging became my career!
Since you started making beauty vlogs in 2010, you have uploaded more than 600 videos to your YouTube channel! How have you been able to stay consistent and motivated as a vlogger to keep uploading quality videos so frequently?
I think my viewers really keep me motivated, I just love talking to them. So I keep uploading just for that reason. When I miss a day (which is rare) I miss them, they are my friends and they mean a lot to me. They always suggest new videos and ask new interesting questions so I love to reply with a video instead of just a comment!
Like everyone, you started your YouTube channel at 0 subscribers. You now have close to half a million subscribers on YouTube! What do you attribute your channel growth to?
LUCK! I’ve been very lucky. I can say it’s hard work and dedication but that’s not all of it. So many people work just as hard as me and are amazingly talented. So it’s all luck, the right video at the right time that’s all. It still really surprises me how lucky I’ve been and I appreciate that every day!
What advice would you give to new vloggers on YouTube?
Have fun with it and don’t get to obsessed with views and numbers. Don’t compare yourself to others because you are different and unique so show THAT to the world!
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you first started vlogging?
Lighting! The right lighting is so important to get quality videos but I also wish I had shown more of my personality from the start so people could connect with me more on a personal level rather then just on a makeup level. Though I have shared my body issues and depression/anxiety stories I wish I had done that sooner.
Every YouTube vlogger wants to grow their channel and get more subscribers. What do you consider to be some of the most effective ways to do so?
I think I’m one of the few that doesn’t really mind if my channel stops growing as long as my connection with my viewers grows stronger so for me I would consider strengthening a bond with the viewers you have and then in time the channel will grow.
Our talk with Sinead Cady highlights the importance of being unique and building a strong community around your YouTube channel to be successful as a vlogger. Another reason for TheMakeupChair being a successful channel is because Sinead takes the time to respond to comments from viewers and interact with her fans. She has uploaded more than 600 videos to her YouTube channel because of her passion for make-up. This shows us how important it is to have a passion for the topics you vlog about in order to have long term success.
We also got to catch up with Sinead on the latest happenings:
I have finally launched TheMakeupChair.ie which I am loving because it’s a great way to connect on another level. I am also working on a really exciting project that I can’t share right now but it’s so exciting and I still pinch myself every morning I can’t believe it’s happening. I will be announcing it really soon! I want to thank everyone for all the support they have given this shy quiet girl from a small town. Thank you.
