Whether you’re brand new to vlogging on YouTube or you’re a seasoned veteran, you know that your channel can’t be a success without your audience. You probably also know that you’re going to have a much easier time transitioning your viewers into subscribers if you spend time building a relationship with them.
The more you treat your viewers like they’re an important part of your vlogs (which they are), the more successful your YouTube channel will be. So how do you do that? If you’re looking for ways to build, maintain, and strengthen your relationship with your vlogging audience, start by following these four simple tips.
Make an In-Video Effort to Engage Your Viewers
First, it’s important to start building a relationship with your viewers from the very beginning. Many of your audience members will find your YouTube videos through their friends’ social media profiles and through Google searches, so the first impression they’ll have of you will likely be in your YouTube videos themselves. That’s why it’s important to engage your audience as much as possible in your vlog content.
When you film your YouTube videos, pretend that you’re talking with your best friend. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and encourage feedback in the video comments. You can also conduct a poll and encourage viewers to leave their favorite choice in the comments, or ask them to leave any questions, input, or thoughts that they have about the video or its topic in the comments.
These are great ways to draw your audience in and make them a part of your YouTube channel, and you can do it just by speaking directly to them and asking them questions in your vlogs.
Reply to Questions From Viewers in the Comments
Encouraging your viewers to leave comments is only the first step, though. If you do this but never engage with them after they comment, they’re not going to keep commenting. Consider it this way: you’ve just encouraged your YouTube viewers to ask you questions that they want answers to. Do you think it’s going to be very beneficial to you or them to leave it at that? Of course not. You need to follow up and answer their questions.
Striving to maintain an active comments section is great for your YouTube channel’s brand, and it shows that you care about your viewers and what they think. So go ahead and write comments responding to their questions, and then ask more questions for your audience to keep the conversation going.
Connect With Your Viewers Outside of YouTube
While your YouTube videos are great for entertainment and/or information, and they allow you to interact with your audience, they don’t really allow you to directly talk with them in real time. Thanks to Google Hangouts On Air, Facebook Live, and Periscope, you can actually create live streaming videos and interact with your audience in real time.
Basically, you’ll decide when you want to go live, and you’ll let your audience know when they can tune in to watch your live stream. Then, while you’re broadcasting, they can ask you questions and you can answer them right away. This kind of video is the fastest and best way to build a great relationship with your vlog viewers, and your streams can also be saved for a limited time so that your audience can come back to watch them later if they aren’t around during your live broadcast.
Host Social Media Chats on a Regular Basis
Finally, along the same lines, you can host chats on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Just promote when you’ll be conducting the chat and simple instructions to participate. For a Twitter chat, you’ll give your audience a specific custom hashtag that they’ll use and a time to add it to their tweets.
For Instagram and Facebook, you can conduct a chat with your followers in the comments section of a particular post. Promote it a few days ahead of time and then post a picture that’s relevant to the chat to get started. If you’re going to do this, we recommend creating a picture that contains a question (text) to help get things started. This will be much better than just creating a normal post. Another really effective strategy for social media chats is to ask questions by recording mini video clips and posting them for followers to respond towards.
Consider these four tips to help you build a great and engaging bond with your YouTube channel’s audience.
