YouTube isn’t just a video repository; it’s also a social network where fans and creators can share and like content and come together in the comments to discuss things that they’re interested in.
Likewise, being a celebrity on YouTube isn’t like being a celebrity in Hollywood. Building popularity and becoming a famous vlogger is all about interacting with and acknowledging your fans. So let’s talk about a few ways that you can show your fans that you care and make them feel appreciated.
Acknowledge Supporters Within Your YouTube Vlogs
Do you have a few fans who’ve been there from the start and who never fail to add value and unique perspectives to the comments on your YouTube videos? Did one of your fans make a great comment on your last vlog that made you really laugh when you read it? Give them a shout-out or a mention in your next video!
Showing that you read the comments and that you appreciate their engagement will encourage your fans to write more great comments and to keep liking and sharing your YouTube videos. Thank your fans with every chance you get, and give them a little bit of extra acknowledgement by verbally giving them credit for their contributions, and you’ll see more viewers contributing.
Showcase Great Comments In Your Vlogs
Similarly, at the ends of your YouTube videos, you can include a segment showcasing your favorite comments from the previous video. Don’t just read them or give shout-outs, though. Go ahead and take screenshots of them and edit those into your video so that your audience can actually see the YouTube names and comments of the viewers who added the most to the conversation in the last video.
This is a great way to include multiple acknowledgments per video on YouTube. It also looks really cool for your fans, and they’re likely to share your video with their friends to show that they got featured, too.
Take The Acknowledgement to Your Social Media Pages
And you don’t have to reserve your shout-outs and mentions for your YouTube videos, either. When you see that you have a particularly faithful fan who contributes a lot, go ahead and give them a shout-out on Facebook or Twitter.
If they tag you in a great tweet, retweet it and thank them. If they post a picture to Instagram that shows the awesome results of following one of your videos, repost that, too. Get involved and respond to fan engagement, and you’ll see really great results, especially when you show gratitude by thanking them for their contributions to your YouTube channel’s community.
Create Q&A Content Dedicated To Answering Viewers
You can also devote an entire YouTube video to acknowledging your fans and what they want to see and hear from you most. Announce that you’re going to make a question and answer video and that you’ll be selecting questions in the YouTube comments to discuss in that video. Then give your fans a little bit of time to gather their thoughts, and don’t forget to remind them in the videos leading up to it and on social media that you want to hear from them so that you can answer all of their biggest questions.
Then, when you make your video, don’t just say, “One reader wanted to know…” Instead, mention their YouTube usernames when you answer their questions and be sure to thank them for asking a thoughtful and cool question that lead to a really fun and informative part of your video.
At the end, encourage your fans to ask more questions and let you know what they thought of the topics you talked about. Ask them to make suggestions for future videos, and don’t be afraid to take those suggestions, either. And, of course, when you do, be sure to mention the fan(s) whose idea your video was based on.
The Importance of Appreciation as a YouTube Vlogger
So, why is appreciation so important? There are quite literally millions of content outlets today. If you have a channel dedicated to film reviews, beauty tips, DIY projects, fitness, healthy diet tips, or any other niche, chances are very good that there are hundreds if not thousands of sources providing similar content.
But, your audience comes to your YouTube channel. Show them that you appreciate them and that you love their engagement and contributions, and they’ll gain a sense of involvement with your brand and your YouTube channel.
The more appreciation you show for your fans, the more successful your YouTube channel will be in the long-term. Through simple shout-outs, mentions, and other acknowledgments, you can gain a really engaged fan base.
