So you’ve started vlogging on YouTube…now what? If you want to grow your audience, create brand recognition, and start really succeeding with your channel, you’ll need to do a few strategic things with marketing, and engagement.
Fortunately, you don’t have to be a YouTube guru to understand how to get more views, subscribers, and interactions for your vlogs. You just have to give these seven effective strategies a try…
Promote Your YouTube Channel with a Playlist of Popular Videos
A lot of vloggers make the mistake of just linking to their YouTube channel’s homepage when they promote their channel on social media. This really doesn’t give your audience anything to work with. Should they start at the beginning? Should they skip right to the latest vlog you’ve uploaded?
Instead, make a YouTube playlist of your most popular and successful vlogs. This will give your new viewers a curated list of highlights that will show off how fun, entertaining, and awesome your vlogging channel is. Once they’ve watched some of the videos in your “greatest hits” playlist, they’ll be interested in going back to your channel and checking out the rest of your vlogs!
Place Your Most Important Links in the First Three Lines of Your Description
Next, let’s talk about your video description. Adding more content here with keywords and phrases appropriately sprinkled into the text will help your SEO (optimizing your YouTube videos to get views from search engines), but remember that your description will be minimized with a “Show More” tab.
So, instead of starting your description off with a long paragraph about your video or building up to the links you want to share, start with your valuable links. Get the most important part of that description right up at the top where everyone can see it, even if they don’t decide to check out the rest of the description.
Start a Discussion in the Comments Section After Each YouTube Upload
Sometimes comments start rolling in immediately, and sometimes they’re a little slow getting started. After you upload your vlog, wait a short while (to avoid vlog spoilers) and then get the conversation going, yourself. For example, you could ask a question in the comments like, “So, what kinds of tips would you recommend for this?” or, “Has anyone tried a method like this?”
If you start the conversation, you can better direct it. Your audience will love the engagement and community you bring to your vlogging channel, and you’ll get a lot more interactions, too!
Create Awesome Vlog Titles
This one should really go without saying, but get creative with your YouTube video titles. Be sure to include some relevant keywords so that your viewers can find you in a Google or YouTube search, but don’t just title your video something like, “How to Choose a Vlog Camera”. Instead, you can give it a title like, “How to Choose the Perfect Vlogging Camera!” or, “5 Great Tips for Finding The Best Vlogging Camera”.
Get creative and get enthusiastic when you’re titling your YouTube videos. Show your viewers and subscribers that something really great is waiting for them when they click the play button.
Set Up and Publish Your Vlog Schedule
Consistency is very important in the vlogging world. If you put out a stellar video that people love, they’ll come back wanting more. If you wait 3 months to put out any more content, they’re going to forget about your great content. By the same token, you should avoid uploading vlogs three times one week and then skip a few weeks before posting two to four times again.
Inconsistency frustrates viewers. Establish a vlog schedule that you can stick to and be sure to publish it everywhere you have a presence online. Tell your viewers when they can expect YouTube videos from you.
You could post something like, “New Vlogs Every Wednesday!” in your YouTube channel’s about page, video descriptions, social media profiles, blog, etc. And then remind your viewers that they can always expect new videos from you on Wednesdays at the end of your vlogs (outro), too.
Include Specific Calls to Action at the End of Your Vlogs
Speaking of the end of your vlogs, don’t be afraid to encourage your viewers to take action. Invite them to like your Facebook page or follow you on Instagram or Vine. Ask them to subscribe to your YouTube channel. Encourage them to leave a comment, or answer your question of the day. All of these calls to action will increase your engagement and help your vlogging channel succeed long-term.
You also have a chance to say, “Thanks for watching!” and show your appreciation for your audience. Your viewers and subscribers play a big part in your success, so let them know! You could even ask your audience to help decide on upcoming content for your YouTube channel. Viewer appreciation and engagement will increase channel loyalty and get your viewers more involved with you and your vlogs.
Brand Your YouTube Vlogs
Finally, don’t avoid branding your channel and vlogs. Create an eye-catching logo for your YouTube channel. If you don’t have any experience with graphic design, you can hire a professional designer to do it for you. This will be money well spent because you’re going to use your logo everywhere you can.
You could have a branded poster with your logo printed to be your videos’ backdrop if you consistently vlog from a specific room. Make a brief branded video intro with your YouTube channel’s logo on it. Have T-shirts, mugs, and other merchandise made with your YouTube logo on them and wear or use them in your vlogs.
You can even sell them in an online store or give them away to a lucky fan. The more people with your channel’s branded merchandise, the greater your offline marketing reach! Also, be sure to use the color scheme of your vlogging brand consistently on your social media pages.
The possibilities are endless for your YouTube channel. Have fun following these vlog tips and getting involved with your audience, and you should see your YouTube channel get a boost!
